Back at home, Matt's neighborhood was a tranquil place just out of the city's reach. It tied two parallel cross roads, running north and south between the two. At each end there were farms of different sorts, to the south was a cattle farm, and a crop farm to the north. The crop farmer harvested the field across the road from Matt's house. The field spanned as far south as the mason's yard, east about five acres, and wrapped around the fireman's yard then went north all the way to the end of the road. The crop farmer lived about a quarter mile north of Matt's house at the bottom of a valley.
The Valley had a narrow dirt driveway leading west down to two homes. The first home was visible from the road, but the drive curved after passing it leading to the farmer's home snuggled further back in the thick of the woods. At the top of the valley along the roadside close to the end of the road stood the farmer's large galvanized silver barn where he stored and sold hay. It had a large silver domed silo right next to it for the farmer's grain storage. Across the road were two smaller buildings where he maintained an old John Deere tractor and other farm equipment. Born a Pisces, Matt heard the pop-pop sound of the farmer's tractor as cultivating season began in the spring when he was just a few months old. The old John Deere created a rhythm Matt liked to listen to. The valley's other home was where the farmer's son-in-law and daughter lived and were raising a family. Matt's Father was good friends with the farmer's son-in-law and both families had the same number of kids that were around the same ages too.
